Making a Creative Splash

Splash by Sally Clark (CT)
Sally has used circles and layering to create her Monthly Pack layout.  The colours work well together and the page has a nice balance about it.  The die cut circle from the pack makes a great journaling tag, with the eyelet scallop a decorative addition.
Here we can see the inking on the edges of the circle shapes, the cutout circles, covered in Dimensional Magic for shine, and mounted up with foam tape.
The clear cut shapes do a great job on their own once applied, but an even better job once covered in DM for that extra glassy touch.  Well done Sally.
Wild Things by Beth Metcalf
Well here we are Beth, despite the technical department at Scrapville pushing the wrong "what's this button do?" button and deleting your photo......... well here it is! ....again....
I must say, despite being on the Scrapville Wall of Fame for a couple of weeks already............ I love the way you have put this layout together.  Lots of "wild stuff" happening!
The alternating circles are a great mix of colours.  The liquid pearls add a nice shiny touch, and make very effective doodling patterns.
The transparency die cuts from the pack blend in beautifully with the colours, and still there's bling!  The offsetting of the circles once layered adds further dimension.
I love your flowers, they add to the theme of your layout.  The Mulberry paper behind the photo is a great way to define the frame and bring the focus onto that great photo.  Well done Beth.
Selfy by Sally Clark (CT)
I then fussy cut some of the shapes from the background papers and used Magic Mount to adhere them to the LO to create some dimension.
To create the soft fluffy edges on the mulberry paper, I painted lines with water where I wanted it to tear and carefully tore along the lines. The acrylic shapes are so much fun! I had the frame in my pack and cut it in half, added some bling and adhered to the LO peaking out from beneath the photo. I also added some bling to the hibiscus flower and adhered it to the photo with Dimensional Magic, which dries clear and can't be seen underneath transparency.
I stamped some images using Versamark and wiped over the images using chalks/pastels in pale blues and greens to create a subtle background.
I used my Cricut Expression and patterned paper for the title, which I finished off with a layer of Dimensional Magic.

Well done Sally, such a great variation on the pack with your 2 layouts.  I love the cutouts, layering and your Mulberry frame.

A newcomer to our Monthly Packs might be showing a few of us up?  She has already put together 3 layouts from her pack, and has brought them into Scrapville to share.  A great effort Jacqui.
Soldiers Beach by Jacqui Hillas
Jacqui has used her stripey paper to make the bunting.  A splash of orange in the border strips  ties in with the transparency diecut shapes.  The staggered photos tell the story I'm sure we've all seen, and the paper diecut stamp shape gives the pages their story.  Well done.
2011 by Jacqui Hillas
I just love that photo.  How many things get written in the sand only to be washed away until another day?  It is a layout with lots of colour and shape, and the total focus on that photo. The Mulberry flower and webbing add to the texture, tying in with the photo frame and paper flags. Well done.
Quick Silver by Jacqui Hillas
Ok, I know you're going to be looking for it, so the title of this page has been chosen by Janet!  How can you NOT call this Quick Silver - look at that face?  Jacqui has pretty much covered the titles in her journaling on the first page but that's it.  The shapes of the photos and the flags make this an effective way to get a mulit photo layout done, a really great idea.  I think you've done a great job Jacqui, thanks for sharing your work.

I hope you've enjoyed seeing what the girls have been doing with their packs, and that you get as much use out of yours!

August Creations

Here are a few more creations using both the "Splash" August Monthly Pack, and the August/September Sketch Challenge.  What a great variation of styles and designs we're seeing.  I hope everyone is having fun creating with these ones.
Winners are Grinners by Deb Pulford (CT)
Deb has gone for a solid background for her colourful Grinners layout.  Lots of shapes and layering add a good blend of colour and depth to this layout.  The edges are lightly distressed to add a bit of rawness, and the red alphas add a good balance with their brightness, and a great way to journal.  Well done Deb.
Cheeky Girls by Jennie Seal (Guest CT)

Jennie has used lots of paper piecing and over stitching along the end border and around the layout frame of this Ezy Pzy Kit.  True to her calling, we have fussy cutting, Dimensional Magic, bling and flowers all on one page!  Some decorative tearing around the edges, mounting up of the cute little critters, birds and flowers, a bit of background spattering and all you'll need to add is some Cheeky Girls and you have a Sketch!  Well done Jennie.
Fish'N'Fun by Zan Boyle
Using more of her Monthly Pack, Zan has cut out a frame from the fish patterned paper to make a frame.  The blue webbing makes a nice interpretation for either a net or waves, depending how you look at it.  The clear cut out shapes blend in well. Lots of little cut out fish add depth as well.  Great to see you getting so much out of your Packs Zan.

Well done girls.

Cards & Layouts

Here we have some more Cards and Layouts from the Sketch Challenges and Monthly Pack to share.
Love Card by Zan Boyle
A great design for a wedding card Zan, lovely contrast of the pink with the grey and black. The raised flower adds dimension, and the punch and bling add a bit of love!  Well done.
Happy Birthday Card by Jennie Seal (Guest CT)
Jennie has used the Monthly Pack to make her card.  Using embossing folders and puches, she has added plenty of texture and effect.  The colour tones are just beautiful.
This handmade flower has worked out beautifully with shaping, inking on the ends of the petals, and a stick pin and button to dress it up.  Well done Jennie.
Happy Birthday Card by Roseanne Cook
Roseanne has also chosen to use an embossing folder on her card, and has inked across to the top for effect.  The colours are great for a masculine card, with the red star and flourish adding a nice bright touch.  Well done.
Enjoy Friends by Jennie Seal (Guest CT)
Jennie has put together another great combination of colours on her layout using an Ezy Pzy Kit.  These come with a co-ordinated range of papers, including a mix of cardstock, stickers, rub-ons, alphas or ribbon.  They take the work out of putting things together!

The MS butterfly punch makes a fantastic border strip, adding softness to the page and blending nicely with the doilies.  The handmade flowers from the Flower Tech Classes look fantastic, and the paint spatters are a nice addition.
 Bec by Zan Boyle
Zan has put her sketch together using the Little Yellow Bicycle Monthly Pack.  I love the colours, and the solid background still defines "white space" with all that depth and colour in the centre.  It's a great take on Anita's sketch.
Zan has used a mask to create her foreground flora shadows.  Some creative border punching, mounting, a good dose of bling and flowers are always a good recipe for a scrapping page.  Well done Zan, lovely.

We will have more to share shortly, so keep them coming.  We love to see your creations!

Sharing with a Splash

Hi Everyone, today we are sharing more layouts using Splash, our August Monthly Pack from Little Yellow Bicycle.  We're sure to see some interesting layouts with this one, as we have some very nice patterned papers in this range.  I hope you have yours...
Fishing on the Dock of the Bay by Deb Pulford (CT)
Deb has cut the acetate sun in half to use as corner embellishments. A MS punch has been used to represent waves for the fish pp. The chevron pp has also been cut so that it looks a bit more like waves.  Very bright and colourful Deb, well done.  It gives the pack a totally different outlook when you see this one...
Remember by Jennie Seal (Guest CT)
Jennie has used a very simple yet effective variation to these bright colours by reversing one of the papers and using only one main colour.  With punches and masking on her layout she has added both texture and depth.  The brick wall was created with a mask and gesso, with smudges added to the background.  Three flowers were handmade and inked, then added to the bottom of the photo.
The fronds, birds and frame behind the photo have all been done using border punches, whilst the white flowers were made using a single punch.  Some doodling was added to the centres, and they have been shaped and mounted at random. Well done Jennie.

Let's Party by Jennie Seal (Guest CT)
Jennie has given her layout lots of colour by adding some contrasting misting.  The layout has faux stitching around the border, and beneath the mounted photo Jennie has used a border punch and patterned papers layered onto the webbing trim.  The transparency shapes are added and tie in beautifully.
The fish balloons have been fussy cut and mounted up. The string lines for the balloons have been machine stitched in various colours, which all look great.  The misted splash of colour behind looks great also.
The gorgeous red ruffled flower trim is used to adorn the photo, and the balloon strings.  The handmade rolled flowers look great in their bright colours, with a bit of fussy cutting of the coloured circle flowers.  Beautiful work Jennie. Welcome to the Team, I hope you have a great time playing.

August/September Sketch Challenge

Welcome to another month of inspiring Sketch Challenges at Scrapville.  I hope you enjoyed the last one and are ready to get going with this one, due in September 14th at Midnight.  Thanks once again to Anita for taking on the task of creating wonderful sketch challenges for you all to play with.
August / September Layout Sketch
Lemon Tree by Anita Bownds (CT)
I started with some gesso on my brown cardstock and used a plastic gift card to spread it around.  Then I added some spritz and let it run down the page.  Next I cut out all my bits of patterned paper, referring to my sketch.  I then used some Fiskars punches for the circle and  the border.
I used a length of the brown ribbon to make a flower, adding a chipboard heart to the middle with a bow on top.  In the top left hand corner I added another chipboard heart with a bow.  I used Adornit Tiny Alpha stickers for my journaling.  Great layout Anita, love the colours you used with this Ezy Pzy Kit, and all the handmade elements look great too.  Well done.
August/September Card Sketch
This is another great Card Sketch from Anita.  I'm sure we're going to see some lovely creations from both these sketches before Pumpkin Time looms on September 14th.  Good luck everyone, and have fun!

Announcement
This next layout is from our Guest Creative Team member for August/September.  I will have another post for you tomorrow about "who" this person is, and a little more information about them, but for now let's see if you can work it out from this beautiful Sketch Layout...
Creative Team Guest - Cute Smile
These are such beautiful colours worked together for a very girly page.  The doilies have been misted and layered, with that gorgeous photo in the centre.  The mix of flowers is an assortment of styles and materials, shaped nicely around the doilies.  A punched border sits nicely beneath these, and a light chalking of the swiss dots on the background blends in beautifully as well.  Well done "you know who...."

Stay tuned for more shortly...

Pumpkin Time approaches...

July/August Sketch
With Love Card by Sarie Los
Sarie has made the chevrons on the layout using washi tape and tissue paper.  The heart and bears were made by machine applique, and adhered to the layout.  A zig zag border has also been machine stitched onto the card .The A very bright, fun layout Sarie, well done.
Monthly Pack
Thank You Card by Sarie Los
With the August Monthly Pack Sarie layered the card with the blue floral paper, and the reverse side, which has the white on kraft.  The image has been stamped and watercoloured on the white cardstock. I've used a chalk ink (absolutely loving the soft look these inks create!) to ink around the image, the blue floral paper and the white card blank.  Love the softness in the red floral trim that ties in with the stamped image Sarie.  The colours work in well together, well done.
Sketch Layout
All Aboard by Gillian Hume
Gillian has used lots of different patterned papers to create each element of the sketch. The flowers are layered and colourfully arranged to give more dimension.  The pinks work well as a background for that lovely photo too Gillian, well done.

If you haven't done so yet, your sketch is due Pumpkin Time TONIGHT!!  The pumpkin is ticking.......
