Sharing some January MP Layouts

Hello everyone, I have a few more layouts to share with you from the January Monthly Pack Challenge.  Also just a reminder that the WINNER of the January Pack will receive an i-Rock Pack, so get those layouts in!

First up I would like to share a layout from our newest Creative Team Member.  Sam has worked with the red & white striped paper for a contrast to the orange, white and blue.  It has a nice balance to it, and I like her use of colours.  An interesting detail is the way Sam has simply stitched over the grid lines on the paper with thick red thread, adding more depth.  You will need a second look to pick this up!  Sam has incorporated the orange hessian into the layout with her i-Top by covering a couple of brads, staggered with some blue bling brads.

The next layout has bunting sewn across the top part of the page, a nicely shaped bracket and strips of patterned papers, all used to frame the central photos.  This seems to draw the eye to the open space.  The hessian is layered beneath the plane, which works well.  A nice and neat layout.

Christmas Night by Fiona Tuckwell

Next we have a layout from Roz who has done a bit of fussy cutting to outline the little man in the sandpit.  Also very neat that she managed to line the pool up as well! The hessian has been used layered under the photo frame, as has the orange c/s behind the title cutout. The cut out buttons also add a bit of 3D when mounted up in the background.

This layout has a bit of punching, painting, Dimensional Magic, doodling, inking, distressing and layering.  The large alpha's are hand drawn and cut, the Mini Alpha's are small tiles.  The hessian is layered on the "a" beneath the star, and strands are threaded through the top of the tiles.

January Blind CropVille 2011

Well here we are, the very first Blind CropVille for this year and we have started off on a roll.  The girls got to play with tooth brushes, paint, stitching, a bit or origami, a Glimmer of Mist, a bit of fussy cutting, and they also had a little (supervised) play with some matches......... all by candle light!!  No not really, but you intrigued right?

All in all it was a very enjoyable class and the girls got to play with things they may not have touched on before, which is always a good thing.  A big thank you to Sally for preparing the BCV this month, we came away at the end with some great techniques, beautiful flowers and really nice layouts.  Even the other Mums that just have boys were right in there, borrowing nieces and granddaughters and girlfriend snaps to scrap!!

The Reveal - Cheeky Girl by Sally Clark (CT)

Sally gave us a white paint spattered background, folded and Glimmer Misted dictionary paper flower centred with a singed organza ribbon swirl, gathered organza flowers and leaves, singed to shape, decoratively cut and mounted corners, mounted flowers and staggered mounted photos.

And the Winner Is.........

Well we are well underway with the new Sketch Challenges, and seeing some great entries coming in too.  With so many great entries in the Dec/Jan Challenge, the decision to find a winner was not made easy for us.  I can, however, now announce that the Winner of the Dec/Jan Sketch Layout Challenge is Allana Adrien with her Spendely Tree entry.

January Announcement

Hello Everyone, well it's that time again - when Announcements are made that can both excite and sadden us.  It is time once again to make some changes to the CreativeTeam with one Member being farewelled, and another welcomed onto the Team.

Firstly, I would like to announce that we will be farewelling the amazing Marg Oliver from our Creative Team.  Marg has been with us for the better part of 12 months, firstly as a Guest Designer, then onto the Creative Team.  During her time with us we have been fortunate to see some of Marg's most beautiful work, and enjoyed the privilege of seeing her gorgeous grandchildren grow and blossom through the eyes of a loving and adoring grandparent.   We at Scrapville sadly farewell our friend, and wish Marg the very best scrapping and card making bliss anyone could hope for, and send her much love for being a part of the Team, she is such a gem!

As requested, I have put a 'Reserved' sticker on her seat for RetreatVille in September, and stocked up on the earplugs!  Marg will still pop onto the Blog from time to time, and we wish her all the success and happiness she so deserves.

please welcome a Wodonga local, Sam Epps.  I have provided a little questionnaire from Sam below so that you can get to know a bit more about her. 

Name: Sam Epps

I live: Wodonga, Victoria

I have been scrapbooking and /or card making for:  I started scrapbooking about 8 years ago to make a birthday gift for my mother-in-law, but was hooked after my first page!  I decided that I had to do an album for my baby boy Joshua and haven’t looked back.

The type of style I like: I think my style is fairly clean. I enjoy fussy cutting and layers and I tend to hand sew on a lot on my layouts, LOL!

The colours I love to work with are: Depends on my photos and the papers that take my fancy at the time. Having boys though, a lot of my pages are boy themes in blues, browns, Kraft, reds, yellows, oranges and greens. I have been a little more adventurous of late and used bright, fun and pretty colours, which I never would have dreamed of using with boys before - and I loved them LOL! 

The products I love to work with are: My favorite products at the moment would have to be ……… Inks, pattered papers, a needle and thread, gems/pearls, my new i-top and punches! 

My favorite patterned papers are: Depends on my mood really, but lately I am loving….. Cosmo Cricket, Echo Park and October Afternoon, bright and fun papers! 

People I love to scrap most are: My 2 beautiful boys are my main source of inspiration. 

I scrap at: Home mostly, but I enjoy scrapping with friends when possible and catching up with Janet and the lovely ladies that attend the crop nights when time permits. 

I do/don't attend Retreats each year with: I have been lucky enough to be invited to a few weekend away with the girls I have met through scrapbooking, and I had a blast at Scrapville’s Retreat last year.

I have been published in: Stamping and Papercraft

I am excited to be a Guest on the Scrapville Creative team because:  I love scrapbooking and have been blessed to meet so many lovely ladies through our shared hobby, many of them have become true friends.  I enjoy sharing and learning through others and hope that I can bring something new and a little different to inspire others and have some fun along the way, and I look forward to working with Janet and the very talented ladies on the Creative Team.

A very clean cut layout, with Sam choosing to use framed circles instead of the squares.  The stitched picture frame and title are tied in with fishing line, giving the layout a sense of movement.

A few Challenge Layouts to share with You.

One of the layouts I would like to share with you today is a double page layout prepared for the January Sketch Challenge by Sally.  For those of you that struggle with the thought of working a double, you need to check out Sally's work!  This girl will adapt most of her layouts, sketches or challenges into doubles because this is how she likes to work.  I think this is a great idea for those wanting to work with multiple photos, especially when you have the perfect sequence to tell a story.

The green alphas have been painted with acrylic paint, then covered with Dimensional Magic to give them a glossy, rounded look.

Sally has used her i-Top tool from Imaginisce to make the fabric brads, and the holly leaves and berries have been coloured using watercolour pencils. The title was glittered Thickers that Sally decided to change the colour of, so painted them and added a couple of coats of Magic!

 

A little bit of innovation with some stripey paper, Dimentional Magic and Glitter help to shape the Candy Cane heart for an added touch.

Next, we have a layout for the Monthly Pack Challenge from Allana. Here we can see lots of tearing and layering of the different patterned papers in this range.  Allana has used her cardstock from the Booster to mount the orange onto, and used a piece of the orange to punch out a border strip between the photo of her speed demon and the patterned papers. 

Keep up the great work girls, we are loving what we are seeing!

More Monthly Packs

Hi Everyone, I hope you have been busy with your Monthly Packs like our Creative Team girls.  They have been working hard to show you all what can be done with this pack, and to give you time to be creative in your own right.

First up we have Nikki's layout.  Nikki has worked with the boy-sie brightness of bunting blues and oranges, invoking an element of white space.  Whilst many may think this is not really a boy thing, white space is often the decider to open up busy or bright themes.  Nikki has utilised the colours perfectly to balance out the bright colours, and by layering objects intermittently with the orange hessian.  You can best see this on the cloud, the star and along the border strips.  And with a little face like that, how can you NOT be drawn into those striking blue eyes!!

 Here you can see Nikki's layering and use of bunting, with an addition of staggered stars.

 I am seeing layers, and layers and a mix of hessian fibres to add texture and dimension.

 Star gazing....

 Next  I would like to share a bit of creativity from Sally.  You could never find a more perfect range of papers for this girls Boys!  If it has wheels, gets wet, muddy, flies or makes noise then you'll find her boys right there in the middle of it.............(probably with my two!).  It's amazing just how much a bit of mounting tape, some Dimentional Magic and some fussy cutting will change the entire look of a layout that you weren't quite sure about!

A bit of acrylic paint and some DM has transformed these alphas to something more "boyish" from the hot pink Glitter Thickers that they were!  The train and carriages are from the Booster Kit, and Imaginisce have done a great job with these Lets Roll Rub-ons as they are so easy to use, with so many options.

Thanks for sharing Nikki and Sally, you have both done beautiful work.  I am sure everyone will be taking away a bit of inspiration and a few new techniques from the samples you have provided.

January 2011 Sketch Challenges

Hi Everyone, and welcome to Scrapville's first Sketch for 2011.  We are starting off with something that may well influence many an Aussie into the direction of heart and home.  Given that our sketches cross over two months, I am really wondering if indeed people are going to be going with their hearts, or choosing perhaps a more patriotic theme with their cards and layouts!  Then again I could be entirely wrong, and we could get something else into the mix - I guess we will all just have to wait and see.   I must also thank Melinda for another inspiring start to the year, with two great sketches to get your mojo moving.

You can bring your completed sketch into Scrapville by close of business, or email an image to Scrapville before the Midnight deadline on the 14th February.  You may use whatever you like from your own stash on the sketch, and you can also flip the design or turn it, as long as we can recognized the sketch it will be accepted into the Challenge.  There will be a Scrapville Gift Voucher for the winner of the Layout Sketch, and the Card Sketch so be sure to get your challenges in on time.

The winner of the December / January Sketch Challenge will be announced on Sunday, 16th January so stay tuned - there's Prizes to be won!

January Monthly Pack Layouts

Hello Everyone, thought I would upload one of our Creative Team Layouts using the Little Boy pack from Echo Park.  Nice bright colours melded with softer tones, trains, planes, boats and cars, and well - just lots more!  I hope everyone is enjoying the challenge.

You won't have to look too hard to see Heather's tell tale stitching and layering.  I am, however, even more excited to see Heather featuring a "man" in her layout , though I suspect her husband was a little curious as to why he missed out......  Son in Laws are special too though!  Maybe there will be an extra special layout for hubby soon...... (wink wink...)  Beautiful work Heather.

January 2011 Monthly Pack

Welcome Everyone to our first Monthly Pack for 2011.  I hope you all have started the year refreshed and raring to go!

To welcome in the New Year Scrapville has chosen the wonderful Echo Park with their bright and fun "Little Boy" range.  The colours are just wonderful, with images of cars, buses, trucks, planes and boats.  They are complimented with a reverse side that offers more variety and colour, stripes, grids and dots, giving you plenty to work with.  This has been teamed up with ribbon,  hessian, boy bling and boy flowers, and a good dose of rich cardstock.
