Time is ticking down as we are getting closer to the end of our Sketch Challenges.  You still have time to get yours in, so lets get going girls!  Today I would like to share a few more with you.

Books & Movies by Angie Wenke

Angie has used her monthly pack to complete this month's Sketch Challenge.  Punched out dictionary flowers and embossed circles add to the texture of the page.  The little bows show both sides of the satin ribbon, and the lovely black lace trim adds to the top edge of the black layer.

A closer look at the dictionary flower, paper rose cluster, lace and bling. Well done Angie, a great start to your first challenge.

Water by Roz Langridge

Ros has used bright colours with her sketch to tie in with the colours in the photos. A very fun and colourful layout, and obviously little Jess was making the most of the water play!

'Zan has combined pinks and reds on her Card Sketch, which combine well together.Mounting up the sentiment and flower adds dimension.

These natural colours all work together so well, and using your extra bits and pieces from the monthly pack has brought in a scattering of extra bling and the lettering.

MEET THE TEAM - SALLY CLARK

Hi Everyone, you would be greatly mistaken if you thought we were not going to give returning CT Member Sally a mention as well!  Perhaps we need to throw in a few wobbly questions for Sally so that you can find out something you didn't know!  Check out this little questionnaire, and please join me in welcoming Sally Clark and her creativeness back to the Creative Team for 2012.

Name: SALLY CLARK

I live: in Finley, a small farming town in the NSW Southern Riverina.

I have been scrapbooking and card making for: 

…as long as I can remember.  I used to glue all my birthday cards into large paper scrapbooks when I was about 5 and my mum recently gave me a card I had made for her when I was about the same age!!!   Mum gave me my first wood mounted stamp about 22 years ago when she returned from a trip to USA…that was the beginning of serious cardmaking.  I started scrapbooking when I was a demonstrator for a party plan company and had to use the products we sold, and that was about 12 years ago.

How would you describe your style, and how has it changed since you started scrapping?

I don’t know that I have a style.  I like so many different ‘styles’ and I just play with what works for the photos I am working with.

What are your favourite techniques?

Inking!  I would be totally LOST without my inkpads. Hand sewing and stamping.

My favorite tools are:   

1…Silent Setter

2…Cricut

3…Piercing tool & mat

4…Paper trimmer

5…Craft knife

My tip for new Scrappers/Card Makers…attend classes, crops and retreats  to learn and be inspired by the atmosphere around you.  Don’t rush out and buy the latest and greatest of everything…start simple and build up as you go.    

My most memorable quick fix for a page gone terribly wrong is…can’t remember!  They must have been so bad I have erased all memory from my mind.  When I do something I am not happy with I either start again or put it aside and come back to it later…much later!!!  Cardmaking  is much more forgiving than scrapbooking…I usually just stick another piece of card or paper over the offending area or add more ink.  Ink hides a multitude of sins!!!

Retreats: each year I attend 1 Retreat with… SCRAPVILLE!!!!!!  

Last year was the BEST retreat I have ever attended…beautiful setting, relaxed atmosphere and a great bunch of girls!

I am excited to be a part of the Team at Scrapville because: …it makes me extend myself and try things I wouldn’t necessarily try or use.

I have been published in: …Stamping & Papercraft.

I have taught classes: …at Starfish Lane, Bellbird Stamps and Papercraft, Spotlight, Scrapbookit and SCRAPVILLE!!!  As well as numerous community groups.  I also trained consultants how to teach classes for a party plan company.

Thanks Sally, now we all know what INK is really used for!  Looking forward to another great year ahead.  And below you will find a layout that Sally did for a class.

Krafty Layouts to share

Hi Everyone, here are some more of our January Monthly Pack layouts to share with you all.  I'm loving how everyone is using the Kraft kit.

Family by Jenny Seal

Jenny has used her Title and Tag to tell the story of her photo on this layout.  Using a label maker to journal, and a bit of Dimension Magic on the little girl has worked really well, as does the layered satin ribbon, black lace trim and punched cardstock.

The MS loopy punch and a scattering of bling dress up the page further.  The crocheted flower and paper roses add more dimension. Well done Jenny.

Mr Kush by Anita Bownds (CT)

Anita has used a Fiskars border punch on the black cardstock strips to dress it up.  The Kraft papers have been stitched with the sewing machine to enhance them a bit more.  A mini pinking border punch was used to make the Kraft leaves.  A Copic Multiliner was used to draw the border around the page, and a little bit of black paint flicked onto the background, giving it a splash of colour.

 

The rolled flower becomes the main focal point beneath the photo, made with the Kraft patterned paper. Some cardstock flourishes, satin bow and bling finish it off. Now all you need is that Cat's Life!!

Play by Sally Clark (CT)

Sally has grunged up this layout a bit by stamping all over the white background with black. The Kraft has been distressed on the edges, rolled and inked with distress inks.

This bit has worked so well.  Sally has drawn a star, then torn out the star and distressed the edges a bit more.  A cutout of the little boy image has been inserted behind this.

The cutout stars were taken from behind the photos, and used to mask an inked pattern on the Kraft.

These stars were then flipped over and inked, then raised up with DSFM tape..... and there's Bling too!! Well done Sally, love the effect of the inked background and torn star.  Keep them coming girls, there are prizes to be won!

Hi Everyone, today we are sharing some more Sketch Challenge creations.

Mud Pies by Claire Apostoloff (CT)

Claire has lightly distressed and inked some of the edges on the patterned paper and spattered paint over it ,using a toothbrush.  A MS circle cutter was used for all the circles, and a MS border punch for the drips.  And what a great photo!

This is Debi's take on the Card Sketch. A nice colour combination on this one, with the stitched ribbon and ruffled flower adding a bit more dimension.

Lovely colours Debi, and nice combination with the solid circles and the patterned papers.  I really like how you've worked this one with the added stitching and layering.

I live: in sunny Maryborough Queensland with my 3 beautiful girls Melissa (14) Kara (10) Eve (7), and an awesome hubby who supports my crazy craft habit.

I have been scrapbooking and/or card making for: Scrapping about 9 years, it all started after my second daughter was born when I was invited by a friend to go to a scrapbooking class - I absolutely loved it!  I have been card making for 2 years.

The type of style I like is: Shabby Chic, Sophisticated with a twist and Artsy.

The colours I love to work with are: I think it all depends on the mood Im in at the time, but mostly blue, green, pink, purple and a splash of black.

The products I love to work with are: Flowers, Stamps, Mists, Ink, Punches and Paint.

My favorite patterned papers are: Basic Grey,My Minds Eye, Fancy Pants and Prima.

I people I love to scrap most are: My 3 beautiful girls and my animals, and my hubby - not that he like his photo taken lol!!
 

I scrap at: in my craft room at home, with my music as it gives me inspiration.
Retreats: it's sad to say that I have never been on a retreat, but I'm sure one day I will get to go to one.

I am excited to be on the Scrapville Creative Team because: I get to be part of an awesome creative team and share my passion for the love of scrapbooking and making cards.

Hi Everyone, well it's time to meet another of our new 2012 Creative Team Members.  Again we have put together a little questionnaire so that you can find out a bit more about the girls.  Please join me in welcoming Claire Apostoloff to the Team, and read on to learn a little more about her creativeness!

Name: Claire Apostoloff      

I live: in Hornsby, NSW

I have been scrapbooking and/or card making for: Just over 5 years. A friend used to teach card making classes and when she showed me her craft room I was hooked.  I then did a scrapbooking class with another friend and soon became addicted after my first son was born. I have always loved beautiful patterned papers but never knew what to do with them until I started scrapping

The type of style I like is: Clean and simple. I don’t tend to put a lot of embellishments on my pages because I like the focal point to be the photographs.

The colours I love to work with are: Lots of bright colours, in particular red and yellow – they seem to suit 3 and 5 year old boys!  I especially like bright colours against a white background.

The products I love to work with are: Anything and everything! Through my addiction I have probably accumulated something from just about every manufacturer!  I love altering chipboard and making my own embellishments from patterned paper, layering and fussy cutting.

My favorite patterned papers are: I admit I’m a complete My Minds Eye tragic – anyone who reads my blog will know this!  I also love Crate Paper, Basic Grey, Echo Park, Imaginisce, Cosmo Cricket, Studio Calico...the list is endless

The people I love to scrap most are: My two boys and my nephew, Sam, who is in the UK. However, I have just become an auntie to a beautiful little girl called Carys. Unfortunately she lives in the US so I have to rely on my brother in law to send lots of pictures. Hopefully I’ll be scrapping a bit more pink soon! I have got better at scrapping myself – someone pointed out to me how important it is that we scrap ourselves so that our children can read about us when they are older. I think it’s good for them to know that their mother has a life that isn’t just all about them!

I scrap at: The kitchen bench top. My hubbie has just finished building our kitchen from scratch and put in an island bench especially for me to scrap at. Now I’m trying to persuade him he needs to build an entire room!

I attend 1 Retreat each year in Sydney.  I have been for the last 3 years but probably won’t be able to make it this year unfortunately.

I have been published in: Scrapbooking Memories, Scrapbook Magazine (UK), Australian Cardmaking, Stamping and Papercraft, Scrapbooking Creations, Australian Scrapbooking Ideas and online in Scrapstreet and Scrapbook News and Review.

I am excited to be a Guest on the Scrapville Creative Team because:  I love to share ideas and see how other people interpret challenges. It always amazes me what people come up with when using different products.

Claire has created a card for the Sketch Challenge using some of her Monthly Pack, and some Crate Paper.

XOX Card by Claire Apostoloff (CT)

Claire used a heart die to cut the various hearts, and then layered the dictionary paper and Crate Paper with some double-sided foam mounting tape.  A scattering of bling adds a nice sparkle, and several layers frame the borders nicely.

The pink strip of patterned paper has been embossed, and then sanded so that the pattern is more defined.

I Live:  In Devonport, on the North West Coast of Tassie :)

I have been scrapping: For about 8 years, initially starting out after holding a scrapbooking party.

The type of style I like is: My style is often very simple, uncluttered but layered with distressing.

The colours I love to work with are: Mainly masculine colours; blues, brown, greens etc.  But I have been known to add a hint of pink!

The products I love to work with are: I am a sketch fanatic, love patterned papers, mists, inks, chipboard and alphas, and Kraft cardstock.

My favourite patterned papers are: Basic Grey, Fancy Pants, BoBunny - in fact most double sided papers.

The people I love to scrap most are: my family - husband and 2 teenage boys.

I scrap at: my desk at home in my scrap room.

I have never attended a Retreat, but it is on my "to do" list!

I am excited to be on the Creative Team because: I really want to inspire fellow scrappers, and being able to scrap with Scrapville kits is a great starting point.

Still Sketchy

Well we're on the downward run to Pumpkin Time with our Sketch Challenges now, having passed the halfway mark.  Keep them coming, we are seeing some fantastic work.  And don't forget, you can rotate or flip the Sketches to suit your creations, but the Sketch must be recognizable.  We have a couple more here from the Creative Team girls, who are keeping very busy at the moment.

Summer by Anita Bowlan (CT)

Anita has used a floral patterned paper for her background, and tied this in with the doiley, title thickers and punched borders.  The cutouts and layers on the flowers and leaves add a nice dimension to the layout, and Anita has also used some stitching on the circles, adding to their definition.  The central photo is further emphasized by the doiley border, and the great colours.

For You card by Sally Clark (CT)

Sally has used her eyelet punch to decorate the right edge.  A layer of coloured paper has been put behind the holes to tie in the colour theme.  The circle has been layered and tied off with a sewn button in the centre.  A small sentiment stamp and inked edges finish it off.

January Monthly Pack Layouts

Hi Everyone, today we are sharing some more layouts from the January My Minds Eye Pack.  The girls have all been busy playing with their goodies, so let's check out what they've done!

Festive by 'Zan Boyle

'Zan has used her Monthly Pack for a Christmas layout, with plenty of "festivities" in the photos!  The black lace trim has been used to create an outer flower beneath the black crocheted flower, and this has been topped with a paper rose - light inked to blend in.

An embossing folder has been used for added texture, and this has been lightly inked for more definition.  Some added bling, a pop up punched flower topped with a paper rose and a couple of strips of doublesided ribbon finish it off.  Well done 'Zan.

Easter Funfair by Claire Apostoloff (CT)
"Out for Publication"

Claire has used her Monthly Pack to celebrate the Easter Show, and it's come up a treat!  

"I was lucky enough to have the word 'fairground' on the dictionary paper, and used a scrap of red to bring it out so that it showed up better."

A decorative MS border punch was used to break up the ticket layer, which has been cut unevenly at the bottom and layered onto black to tie in all the colours.

Our little fellow here has been touched up with Copic Markers, and Claire has journalled her story on this.

The dictionary paper cutouts make a great background once mounted on black cardstock and highlighted with a smattering of paint.  Claire has also "snuck" a bit of ephemera on there from the Easter Show.

Dream by Deb Pulford (CT)

Deb has brought a bit of white space into this layout of Sameul.  It's a nice contrast to the Kraft and works in so well with her design.  All the edges are distressed and inked with Pinecone.

The dictionary flower has been inked with Pinecone to add a bit of grungy-ness, and the bunting also has been edged with the Pinecone.  Walnut Stain was added to the Rosette for colour..

The MS Modern Garland Edge Punch has been used to create the Kraft border beneath the title.  The dictionary circles, as well as the dictionary block behind the title, are also inked with Pinecone. 

Happy Birthday card by Claire Aposotoloff (CT)

Claire used a Martha Stewart punch for a border, then sprayed an embossing folder with some red Glimmer Mist and ran it through the embossing machine. It was then matted on black to make it pop.  A red paper rose centres the black crocheted flower, and a simple "Happy Birthday" stamp completes the card.

 

The butterflies were punched into the black cardstock then overlayed onto the dictionary paper.  The lace trim was layered beneath this, then layered again onto a MS border punched strip, as described above.

 Butterfly Card by Claire Aposotoloff (CT)

This is the same card as above, and Claire has used another punched and embossed border strip, decorated with a gorgeous little butterfly punch.  This card without the sentiment stamp becomes a very versatile card.

For You card by Deb Pulford (CT) 

Deb used her scraps to put her card together.  Kindy GLitz was used on the black flowers for sparkle, the the MS border punch to edge the top layer.  A strip of the doublesided ribbon separates the papers.

MORE SKETCHES TO SHARE

Hi Everyone, well it's good to see a bit of scrapping going on during the holidays!  I hope everyone is finally able to kick back now that Christmas and New Year are behind us for another year.  With the Dec/Jan Sketch Challenges still having a bit of time to go until the Pumpkin strikes, I have some more creations to share with you all.

Fun with Shampoo by Deb Pulford (CT)

Deb's layout really is bright and fun, utilizing the round photos into the bath scene is a great idea to represent bubble - or even shampoo bubbles!  The torn edges define the layers and break the colours.  Great colour combination and fantastic bath hair!  Well done Deb.

Friends card by Anita Bownds

Anita's card has one of the gorgeous little Woodland Folk stamped and coloured on the front circle panel.  To add a bit of depth she has fussy cut nad mounted the little leaf and his little foot.  These guys are so cute!  Layers of patterned paper, distressed edges, border punched strips, some string and some bling bring the colours together really well.  The little Friends sentiment finishes it off. Very nice Anita.

January Monthly Pack

My Minds Eye - Fun Day

For the first Monthly Pack this year we are running with a Kraft pack from MME.  A heavier cardstock with a rustic addition of black and a touch of cream makes for an interesting combination. I can't wait to see what everyone will come up with using this pack.

 JANUARY MONTHLY PACK

Here we have some lovely bits to compliment this rustic pack, including your standard mix of black and white cardstock, 4 doublesided kraft patterned papers, black chip thickers, a vintage journal card, black lace trim, gold/black doubleface satin ribbon, a black crocheted flower and a sheet of dictionary paper.

JANUARY MONTHLY BOOSTER

In the Booster you can expect 2 doublesided kraft patterned papers, a sheet of cream cardstock, paper roses and a mixture of bling to add to the mix.

Now, if you weren't quite sure what to do with it then check out what the first two of our Creative Team girls have been up to.

Memories by Sally Clark (CT)

Sally has shown us how versatile we can make a pack, by using a Black & White wedding photo.  Simple yet elegant.

Here Sally has used paper piercing to make decorative flourishes in the corners.  The paper rose has been lightly inked with Distress Inks to fit in with the theme.

The flowers have been made using a scallop punch, layering each one.  Adding a curl to the ends and a bit of Distress Ink adds a bit of age.  The paper rose has been layered onto the scallop punch out, and again onto the crocheted flower.

A close looks shows the photo being layered onto the dictionary paper and mounted up.  The lace trim is nicely embellished with just a touch of elegance by adding the bling.  The double face satin ribbon blends in nicely above the trim, and being so versatile with the option to flip it over as Sally has done to drop below the flower.

Who would have thought you'd use a wedding photo with these papers - well done Sally.

 Smile by Deb Pulford (CT)

Deb has used a Broken China Distress Ink to grunge up her distressed edges a bit more.  A layer of embossed strips using the Clockworks folder, with a smearing of the Distress Ink, has lifted and blends in with the blue in Samuel's top.  A scallop circle punch was used to make the dictionary paper flower behind the crocheted black flower, which was then inked with the Broken China and scrunched up a bit to add dimension.  A nice little zig zag brings in a bit of bling, and the doublesided ribbon blends in nicely with the papers.

This is a closer look at the effect you can get by using your distress inks to touch up your distressed edges, and also by smearing across an embossed paper, such as the Clockworks.  Well done Deb.

Creative Team Announcement

Hi Everyone, we hope that the coming year brings much peace and happiness to all.  May you and yours find contentment in life's creativity in 2012.

To see the new year in at Scrapville, we are very fortunate to be able to introduce the latest additions to our Creative Team for the first 6 months of this year.  As we welcome our new Team, we must however thank the girls who will be stepping down.  A huge thank you to Heather, Sam, Michelle and Sarah for all your beautiful inspiration and creativity.  I have no doubt you have guided many to venture forth and create as you have done.  Your time on the Team has been very much appreciated, and we thank you and look forward to seeing more of your work on the Blog.

We would also like to thank all those that applied for the position, and congratulate those that have been successful in being selected in this instance.  We are excited to introduce a Team of talented ladies, with masses of experience between them, to inspire and awaken your creativity for the next six months.

Without further ado I would like to introduce the New Creative Team:

Firstly, staying on-board is well known Scrapville identity Sally Clark.  With many years of experience, Sally is a veritable data bank of knowledge in the stamping and technique area.  We are extremely pleased to have her stay on-board for another term.  Once again you can expect to see Sally testing your patience at the Blind Crop, and testing your techniques at the Copic Club.
